Advocacy Camp 2012
Event Date: Wednesday, October 17, 2012 - 9:00am
Advocacy Camp will be held October 17-19, 2012 at the energizing and refreshing Rainbow Lodge in North Bend, Washington. We're taking applications!
This three-day, interactive training is a great opportunity to gain and sharpen leadership skills and learn more about public policy advocacy for all kids. Advocacy Camp covers three major advocacy areas: legislative, community building, and media.
Participants will learn how to effectively communicate with elected officials, get their issues highlighted in the media, and persuade others to join their cause. In addition, there will be opportunities to discuss racial disparities and inequalities that are hurting kids. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with other advocates and learn more about other advocacy efforts across the state. By the end of the training, individuals will go home with new skills, ideas for advocacy efforts, and likely, a new friend to advocate with. To participate in camp, submit an application by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5th.
Advocacy Camp is limited to adult residents of Washington state. In order to attend Advocacy Camp, you must be an online member of the Children’s Alliance. It’s free to sign up at: http://action.voices.org/site/PageNavigator/signup.
The Children’s Alliance recognizes and honors diversity. We seek to reflect diversity in our advocacy camp participants. We highly encourage parents/guardians of children directly affected by Children’s Alliance policy issues to apply. We want advocacy campers committed to advocating for policies that benefit children. We encourage applicants to join with others and apply as a group.
Tuition is $425 for general public and $325 for Children’s Alliance organizational members (staff, board, and volunteers). Tuition covers all training costs and materials, all meals and lodging. Scholarships, child care assistance and travel reimbursements are available.
But please do not let the cost keep you from applying. We encourage you to apply early. Don’t delay, apply today!
