By now you have received emails from us and organizations in your state urging your organization to sign and circulate a SNAP letter to Senators Murray and Cantwell and the WA House delegation. We wanted to make sure that you knew why this effort is so important at this particular point in the Farm Bill negotiations.
Senate Ag Committee Slated to Take up Farm Bill Soon: Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has signaled that she intends to mark-up a Farm Bill soon – possibly as early as late April. It is essential that as many diverse Washington organizations as possible urge Senators Murray and Cantwell that constituent groups back home are united in opposition to ANY cuts to SNAP – and that efforts should be made to strengthen, not weaken, the program. It is only through our joint efforts – here in DC where a broad coalition of national groups have been lobbying the Congress in support of SNAP and back home in Washington – that our message of strengthening and protecting SNAP will be heard.
Deadline for signing the letter is Friday, April 13, COB.
