AHNC Advocacy Alert: Hunger Action Day is 3 weeks away! Take ACTION for EFAP

AHNC Logo
Update & Action Alert
Ask Your Representatives to Support EFAP!

Please ask your network (organizations, family members, board members, anyone!) to call or email their representatives and ask them to sign onto a letter of support to add funds to EFAP. Ask your representatives to contact Justin Rosetti, Rep. Brian Blake's Legislative Assistant, to sign on. Please also let Christina (christinaw@northwestharvest.org) or Katharine (kathariner@fll.org) know if a representative agreed to sign the letter. They will follow up with that member and be sure they connect with Rep. Blake's office.

Are You Registered for Hunger Action Day?

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22 is Hunger Action Day - only 3 weeks away!

Sponsored by AHNC and powered by you, our lobby day is a chance to talk directly with lawmakers about our hunger relief system. Our goal is to beat last year's attendance of 170 people so sign up now. We provide training, set appointments with your legislators, and give you a chance to network with anti-hunger allies. Sign up and spread the word TODAY.

Can't Come to Olympia for Hunger Action Day? Be part of our Online Lobby Day!

You can still send a message to your legislators about what's important for hungry families and why you care about investing in programs that feed people. Click here to send a personal message to your representatives and senator.

Legislators Have Some Solutions to Pay for Basic Needs and Education - Send Your Support:

Let your legislators know that you support proposals to reform our tax system to pay for critical services. Sen. Ed Murray (43rd) has a bill that would create a Washington capital gains tax, generating millions of dollars for education in the years to come. Rep. Laurie Jinkins (27th) also has plans to propose a similar capital gains bill in the House. The House Finance Committee will be considering what tax loopholes to close, extending the B&O business surcharge tax and beer excise taxes.

It's important to educate your networks about what tax reform proposals are on the table - let them know how hard it would be for your programs and your clients if there were more cuts to critical services so you support a tax system that works better for low-income people.

WSDA's Farm to Schools/Small Farms Programs:

AHNCLawmakers are giving lots of good feedback about what we're saying about how great our state's Farm to Schools/ Small Farms Programs are and how important it is to keep them running. If you have stories about how farmers have been able to take advantage of these resources and helped in your community, let us know - contact Christina Wong (christinaw@northwestharvest.org).

You can also come to Olympia on Mon., February 4 for Food & Farming Day to speak up for AHNC's priority: restore our state's innovative and essential Farm to School and Small Farms Programs at WSDA! RSVP here.
